21 Review

The movie has a rough start with a crude introduction of the characters and their background. Nothing unusual there. What was annoying was all the technical joke in the beginning. I work with a lot of electronics and I was completely lost with all the terminology, and they don't even fit! The climax of the movie was the only good part, good action, gave a fun atmosphere for the movie-goer. It finally shows its action side. The movie was very good at making me hate the character Mickey Rosa (played by Kevin Spacey). There were some scenes that I found did nothing to advance the story but waste time so that it can stretch the movie to 2 hours and 15 minutes.

One might wonder, if the main character Ben Campbell (played by Jim Sturgess) got addicted to the game than just wanting to exact revenge on Mickey Rosa after he got robbed.

All in all, it wasn't a great movie nor was it horrible, looks like a typical Blackjack movie with a MIT twist to it. At first I was reluctant to watch the movie because of the negative reviews, but my friend really wanted to watch the movie so I gave in and watched it. I have to thank her for a time well spent. I wouldn't have watched this movie alone. Even though it wasn't a great movie, I enjoyed it, I think that's the bottom line here. So I guess $10 well spent?

I wouldn't recommend you to buy the DVD though, maybe rent it first if you haven't watched it. It's not one of those movies that you must own on DVD when it comes out.
