Demi Lovato: Don't Forget - Album Review
People have heard Miley Cyrus and how she became famous with Disney. However, less so with Demi Lovato. I'm pretty sure you don't even know who she is unless you ask kids the age of 12 - 15.
Demi Lovato is best known for her star role as Mitchie Torres in the movie Camp Rock with the Jonas Brothers. Albeit a little cheesy and not as popular as the coveted High School Musical franchise.
Needless to say, Demi Lovato has definitely put her foot in the door with Disney as a rising star with a brand new sitcom Sonny with a Chance.
Her first album, Don't Forget is an interesting one. It's not much like most of the other Disney stars' music. This album is not only catchy, but very well thought with deep lyrics. Some may say it may be a little too dark for a Disney star. It's a very notable album in itself as many people will agree that Demi Lovato is a natural talent. Her ability to convey her feelings through her songs are quite emotional. This is especially true in her song titled Don't Forget (which is also the name of the album).
Some of my favourite songs from this album include: La La Land, Get Back, Don't Forget, andThe Middle. The former three songs are actually singles with The Middle being the only exception.
La La Land, I find is a very good take with the stereotypical depiction of Hollywood with all the out-of-whack melodrama. Like many adults, I will agree that the chances that she won't change in the "La La Land machine" is quite rare as most Hollywood actors and singers will be swept away from their morals at times.
Get Back, is a very powerful song with a very catchy tune. Unfortunately, the lyrics is not what sets it apart from anything since the song is a basic love song. This also holds true with The Middle.
Don't Forget is the most notable song in her album because of the dark and very emotional lyrics. This is where her talent as a singer shows. This song also sets her apart from most Disney stars as it's a more mature song (or at least of "adult-level" lyrics). This song actually can make me quite sad even if I'm in a happy mood.
Unfortunately, there were 2 songs that I didn't see as "put in loop mode" worthy. These two were Party and On the Line. They're good music but it feels like any other Disney songs that they have published over and over again by different artists.
Overall, this album is pretty solid, with a good range of songs with a good mix of rock, pop and soft rock. I would actually classify this album to be Rock more than Pop. Most of the songs I can't even classify them as "Tween Pop" as Gracenote filled in, in their CDDB databases. At best, I can only classify it as "Pop" like The Backstreet Boys, N*Sync, and the old Britney Spears. I would actually recommend this album to anyone who wants a family-friendly album to listen to, like a break from the other "adult" music. I wouldn't say it's fully geared to teens (although that is the main target audience). It has definitely been picked up by me who just left the teen realm.
Demi Lovato is definitely an artist you want to keep an eye on because not is she is a talented singer and actor, but she is starting to break into the Hollywood scene with full force.
Rating: 7.8/10
