The Wayne's Awards - Was it really slimfast?
The Wayne's Awards was this year's school play at Metropolitan Preparatory Academy, the high school that I went to. This year's play was a parody of the Oscar Awards. It was billed as the first annual Metroprep gala as it fuses it as a school play and a talent show. Would this year's theme make it a instant success?

(Best friend Raquel and I on the red carpet)
With parodies flying left and right, The Wayne's featured parodies included The Sun Close to the Horizon ... Especially During the Evening (Twilight), Cream (Milk), The Rester (The Wrestler), The Dark Night (The Dark Knight), and Slimfast in the Air (Slumdog Millionaire), the idea was fantastic, but did it nail it? Not at all. The execution was a mess. Although it took 3 months to produce (and many school plays are like that), it felt like watching a Uwe Boll movie ... yes, I said it, Uwe Boll. I can hear gamers starting to cringe at that name. The play was riddled with technical glitches that were very obvious. One notable glitch was only because of poor set up. It was when the amps weren't warmed up. This should have been set up a long time ago, not during the performance. Another thing that slammed the play was the fact that there were way too many inside jokes. Like, look at the photo above, do you actually know the reference of the diet Coke cans in the background? One thing that was definitely not acceptable was when the director chose to introduce the drummer during my friend's performance. It was absolutely rude of him doing so.
Even though it was a mess, there are several things that made it enjoyable. These included Tom Eastman's special appearance, Kelda Wells and Sean Collin's performance, Austin St. Jacques' hosting and interaction with Adam Verk, the Slimfast in the Air segment and Raquel Joshua's dance performance in the end. Raquel was able to pull off her dance performance on the spot which is really amazing. I really liked the title "Slimfast in the Air" for Slumdog Millionaire.
The production was rushed and needed touch-ups, I don't like to basically "punch my friends in the nose" but really, some of them were completely lost. Maybe it needs another month of production time in order to pull it all together. The idea was fantastic, but the execution was poor.
Pros
- Raquel's Improvised Dance Routine
- Austin's role as host
- Adam Verk's role as the bartender
- Tom's special appearance role
- The Slimfast in the Air segment
- Rushed production
- most performers were lost
- many obvious glitches and poor set-up
- rude interruption during Raquel's dance routine
- too many inside jokes
- the dance opening needs a lot more co-ordination
