Project KNod

Pronounced nod, it is a project for me attempt to theme KDE to resemble the Brotherhood of Nod faction. As I've described on Facebook:

In celebration of the long decade of the Command & Conquer series (and specifically the Tiberium universe). I've took the time to start a lil' hobby project to make a desktop theme basing on the Brotherhood of No.

Well, the project is basically done, so what did I do to the desktop? Well, here is the the final product:

The final version 1 product.

Well, the following is the transformation of the desktop:

As a comparison, this is the vanilla KDE4 desktop on openSUSE. The first 5 minutes of customization.
After 10 minutes, found a kink. The openSUSE start menu is white by default ... still need to fix that >.>" I then decide to change the colour of the window border, referring to Nod Tiberium technology prowess.
After several hours of tinkering, I refined the colours a bit, changed the start menu. Still wanting to change the start logo to the Nod logo. That'll take more time to figure out. I also added the appropriate sound effects when logging in, out, minimizing, unminimizing and maximized. The final version 1 product.

Works on other applications that aren't part of KDE as well!

The colour scheme also works with applications that aren't part of the desktop as well!

Sound Effects:

  • Login: Establishing battlefield control, please stand by
  • Logout: Battlefield control terminated
  • New window: Unit Ready
  • Close window: Unit Lost
  • Unminimized window: Unit Ready
  • Minimized window: Cloaked Unit Detected

FAQ

So people might wonder why I chose KDE and Linux specifically. The reason behind that decision is that KDE and Linux together are the best team when it comes to desktop customization. You can tweak Linux so much that it becomes a lot faster on the same hardware. On KDE, the visual customization is endless. Unlike GNOME and Windows, KDE takes less figuring out to change something.

This is also not going to be released as a downloadable theme since this is strictly an artwork project. The account wasn't even created for using, I created a separate account to work on this.
