Alright, Google Chrome came out and let's take some time to review what this new browser has to offer.
Although the browser is based on a rendering engine that dates back its origin to the KDE project through the KHTML and KJS projects, WebKit has come a long way since it was branched off by Apple. However, unlike its ancestor, Konqueror and Safari; Google Chrome comes out as a new breed of web browsers. Obviously there are still kinks in the project that needs to be fixed as it is still labelled as beta software. However, the main difference about Chrome that I liked about was the fact that each TAB, not window is on its own process. One might wonder how this is good. Alright, for instance you have an annoying web software or webpage glitched out and crashed. Instead of pulling down the whole browser (and hopefully you're not still on the arachic MS-DOS based operating system and having it pull down the operating system), it will instead only crush its own tab so you won't lose the whole web browser with the important tabs still intact while the rascal is taken care of.
Also, when you open a new tab or window, it shows you a grid of websites that you've recently visited which I found it quite neat since it hasn't been done on other browsers before.
Unfortunately, the only thing that bugs me about this browser is the fact that it is not cross-platform yet. It's only available for Windows. Once the Mac version of the browser comes out I will further review the browser. Also, on another note, the rewritten Javascript engine known as V8 does significantly boost the speed of the Javascript web applications.
It is indeed a great start for Google for making a web browser, but there is obviously more work to do, including using a more updated version of WebKit which includes the much needed patch that is missing from the browser (which Apple Safari has already addressed). If you think that you're kind of being invaded by Google by their plethora of software, then this is only the beginning as Google seems to seek more of your disc space on your hard drive in the near future.
